if I'm positing that Jack is actually going to school somewhere that's not on the East Coast, then this needs to happen IMMEDIATELY after Save As. Anyway.
Jack invites John out to dinner. He makes a point of telling/asking John to bring Matt with him. I'm of two minds about whether Lucy is there too. In any case, they go out for Chinese and Jack announces he's gay. Matt spits hot and sour soup everywhere and then starts laughing uncontrollably. Needless to say, he's the only one amused. Jack is really angry about growing up in the shadow of the Great John McClane, Heterosexual Role Model, only to find out that his dad's gay after all. If Lucy's there, she's hurt that Jack felt like he couldn't tell her before then; Jack points out how much she's like John and Lucy's offended about that too.
John takes some objection to the label gay. Which makes everyone curious as to how John IS exactly quantifying what's going on with him and Matt. In private, John explains to Matt that he doesn't know (about the label 'gay'); he doesn't go around looking at other guys, he doesn't get all hot and bothered about the thought of dick...unless it's Matt's. "I just... I just love you, all right?" Matt realizes that John's been pushed about as far as he can be about it and relents.
