thecatevariOkay, Cassi...the damn outline is DONE. Gods only know when I'll get the actual STORY done, but we have achieved outline!
In Norse mythology, a vardøger is a ghostly double who precedes a living person and is seen performing their actions in advance.
OUTLINE IN THE ROUGH
Jared and Jensen are out after a night of partying and Jensen sees this kid on the sidewalk. He pulls over and jumps out. The kid is beat up and shivering. Jensen comes to Jared's window and says that he's totally willing to drive Jared home first, but he needs to talk to the kid. Jared: "Well, who is he?" Jensen: "Just some kid I know." Jared says he'll hang out.
The kid won't go to the ER, so they end up in a Denny's (or similar). Jared's kind of drunk and so details are starting to filter in slowly, but when Jensen and the kid (and I am NOT naming him Jack; there are enough J's in this story already) are standing together, he notices the kid kind of looms over Jensen, which is unusual. And then maybe, when they're at the table, the kid starts to comb his hair down (the way Jensen liked it) and Jensen says really sharply, "No." and the kid looks at him and then combs it back again and Jared notices it's longer than he thought and brown… And it was obvious from moment one that the kid was a hooker. So certain things start falling together in Jared's mind. And he doesn't like what they're adding up to. But he's drunk and kind of confused and really uncomfortable—and it's clear Jensen is too—so he doesn't say anything.
But now things are different and weird. Jared has to face up to some new realizations: that Jensen likes the cock and that he might be more than unusually interested in Jared's cock. Jared's had some run-ins with boys himself (he and Milo had a lot of angry sex right around the time Jared was being phased out of Gilmore Girls) but he's a faithful guy and as long as he's been with Sandy, he hasn't been with anyone else. Jared would like to think that Jensen could be up front about things, but clearly he was wrong. He feels lied to and he starts to feel angry.

Jensen tries to talk to Jared about it, but since his 'explanation' consists mainly of "I had a problem, I took care of it," it doesn't really solve anything. Jared wants to know why Jensen didn't tell him. Jensen falls back on Sandy as an excuse. Things are still fucked up and strange.
Jared obsesses. Jensen withdraws. Finally, word leaks up to Eric and he sits them down and tells them to work it the fuck out because it's affecting the job. Jared invites Jensen out drinking. They close the bar and end up back at Jensen's place, totally wasted. Jared finally blows up. Even if Jensen was trying to respect Jared's relationship with Sandy, they've been broken up for months (amicably; they were both tired of the LD thing and it was exhausting them, trying to keep it going). Jensen's still closed down. "I had a problem, I HANDLED IT; why can't you let this go?" Jared is filled with entirely inappropriate curiosity. When did it start? How long did it go on? How long has Jensen felt this way? They argue inconclusively and barely coherently for a while and finally, Jared proposes that they "just get it over with." They argue a little more, but in the end, they have drunken, half-angry, half-desperate sex (I'm thinking there'll be at least a small conflict over topping because I think Jensen topped with the rentboy and I see Jared wanting to top with Jensen, at least initially).
In the morning, things are still weird (mainly because they're both unsure how the other one is going to act/react) but not in the same way. Jared doesn't know if this is going anywhere, but he feels better at having it out in the open. As he's leaving Jensen's hotel room (or apartment?), though, he sees the rentboy on his way to Jensen's room and it riles him up all over again. What the hell is Jensen doing with this kid? This skanky, rentboy kid? Plus, the kid is clearly strung out and what the hell is Jensen doingfucking palling around with someone so dangerous?
Jared goes back to obsessing. However, he doesn't want to fuck up his fragile truce with Jensen, so he does his best to keep it to himself. However, when he's out and about and happens to run across Jensen's rentboy, he finds himself inviting him to lunch/dinner to talk about his relationship with Jensen. The kid (I'm just going to call him Ezra for the sake of a name; subject to change) used to work for a fairly high class service; Jensen requested him from the book and fucked him pretty regularly for about a year. Jared gets answers and he thinks he should be satisfied with them, but when they stand up to go, he offers Ezra another hundred to meet him a few days later to talk again.
Jared kind of feels like he's going crazy. He's obsessed with this idea that Jensen is obsessed with him. He wants to know the sordid details, even as he recognizes he has no right to them. Except he feels like he does have some right; Jensen was pretending Ezra was Jared and lying to Jared's face about it every day. For YEARS. Ezra is amused by the whole situation. Despite the drugs, he's not stupid and he's fully aware that Jensen was really hung up on someone else. At one point, Ezra even offered to fuck Jensen for free, off the books and Jensen wouldn't go for it. He always insisted on paying, keeping it strictly a business relationship. (Maybe Ezra's just a touch bitter about that. Not that he was in love with Jensen, exactly, so much as it hurt his pride.) In any case, Ezra's enjoying stringing Jared along.
Things come to a head when Jensen sees Jared and Ezra together. Jensen blows up. He's tired of Jared picking through his personal, private life; he doesn't understand why Jared can't just let all of this go, why he has to keep picking at the scabs of a moment Jensen's not even particularly proud of, why Jared can't just…STOP. Jared does his own share of exploding, giving vent to all the frustration and pent-up feelings that they have been decidedly not talking about all this time. Nothing is really resolved and there's a definite feeling of "the band has broken up".
Jensen starts "hanging out" with a new guy, an anti-Jared. He brings the guy around all the time, being really ostentatious, making a statement of it: I am over you. Jared doesn't make any outward fuss about it, but inside, he's still kind of seething. Except now, there's just this massive ache that goes along with it. One day, Sandy calls him to chit-chat and get his opinion of the new guy she's dating. She asks how Jared is doing and he blurts out that he thinks he's in love with Jensen. Sandy is a supa ex-girlfriend and totally enables him. Jared wonders if it's too late.
On the set, Jared sits down next to Jensen. He mentions he hasn't seen Jensen's new flame around lately. Jensen tenses up, but he admits that he's not dating the guy anymore. "Wasn't my type." Jared: "You have a type?" Which gets him a small, wan smile and some defrosting. Jared says cautiously, "So…you remember how you said you wouldn't date me because you were afraid it would screw up our friendship?" Jensen tenses up again. "Yeah?" Jared: "Well. It can't possibly get more screwed up than it is now. I think we should give it a shot." Jensen kind of double takes and then looks to see if Jared's serious. "Are you kidding me?" Jared: "Well, we might as well get laid while we're hating each other, right?" Jensen laughs and some of the old easiness is back. Jared persists and Jensen cautiously agrees to a date.
I could end it there…but Cassi has informed me that the Fangirl Collective might execute me if it doesn't get it's porn, so if I DON'T end it there….
