Post apocalyptic AU with Jared/Jensen, ZOMG.

Okay. So way back at [livejournal.com profile] winchestercon, [livejournal.com profile] brynwulf and I were discussing our love of post-apocalyptic fic. And then [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon posed the question of "If the WB was running a brothel, who would be the madam." And I really, sincerely believe that was the genesis of this whole idea. *coughs*

So after that, [livejournal.com profile] brynwulf and I were discussing the possibility of cowriting a post-apocalyptic brothel fic with Sam & Dean here. And we sort of made random comments about it now and again, but never actually TALKED IT OUT.

Then. Yesterday? Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] brynwulf hit me up on IM and we were chatting. And had the following conversation:

[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: We've talked before about our love for post-apocafic. It's is the awesomest.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: Oh yeah! Bigtime! And we still need to put together that brothelfic in postapoc times. Guh.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: YES. I'm so excited about that. Every time we mention it I make little gaspy noises.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: Me too! Sometimes I even think it would be better with J2. Either or works for me. I'm such a slut for the RPS. And RPS AUs are even better!
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: *nods* That actually would be pretty cool!
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: I mean they're both so pretty and used to getting the fangirl attention. Putting them in a brothel where they HAVE to work to stay alive.... A gay brothel even... Oh my.
I actually think the angst quotient would be higher with J2 than with Sam/Dean.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: I think so too. And there would be this faint edge of bitterness that all they have left to trade on, really, is their looks.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: Oh yeah. Their personalities would have such a hard time with that.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: YES.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: Especially Jensen!!
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: *beams* Exactly!
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: I somehow think Jared can make the best of any situation. He is all that keeps Jensen SANE
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: And he's shy to begin with, so then you'd have Jared protecting him....gnnngh YES.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: OMG! Protective Jared!!! swoon
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: Right? Oh, MAN, I want to write this.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: I DO TOO! The world is a fucked up place and they only have each other. And it just kills either one when the other has to take a trick. [whimper]
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: YES. And Jensen comes back to their room and he just looks so TIRED and he's SHAKING and Jared's like "C'mere." And Jensen lays down and they don't even SAY anything. Because what could they say?
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: YES. And they take what little time they can have together and mostly just hold each other. With Jared being the STRONG one.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: YES.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: I loved your idea of them having to do it because one of them needs some kind of medicine they either can't afford any other way or the brothel is the only place that has it. And if one can't leave, the other won't.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: *nods* As the bottom drops out of the legitimate markets, the black market becomes the real power if you're in desperate need of something. Oh man. Total ME kink, but if it's the apocalypse, no more contact lenses. Jensen would have to wear his glasses. And they probably wouldn't let him wear them with tricks.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: Oh god, YES! I'm a fucking puddle of goooo! It would be an interesting twist that as strong as Jared is for Jensen emotionally...keeps him sane. It is Jared who needs the meds and Jensen who won't leave him no matter how hard Jay tries to make him.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: YES.
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: And they have that fight over and over and over.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: YES. "Jen...you HATE this. It's killing you."
"Not as much as the thought of leaving you to this all by yourself."
[livejournal.com profile] brynwulf: "I can take care of myself."
"But, I don't want you to have to.
[livejournal.com profile] poisontaster: YES. OMG, we must write this!

And so then I went out with the Roommate and Bryn went to her football game and then she emailed me with this:

You're not going to believe this, but I spent half of the football game thinking about this story. However... I am so ready to start on it!! Here are some notes and I would love you to add/change. Are you interested in actually writing this with me? It so has to be done!

~ I was thinking of going with a natural apocalypse of some kind. I don't know if you ever read a very long Sentinel AU zine where some sort of virus started spreading, making people allergic to certain things. You never knew what or even if you were going to be allergic to something. I'd like to go with some sort of maybe biological warfare.

~ The Canadian/US border will be closed, as the US is not letting anyone out or in after the exposure. Maybe it's something that hit North America first? Then moved to the rest of the world as some people escapded and took it with them?

~ So, as tragedy and emergency will do, people basically resort to survivalism. The government quarantines your house if someone falls ill, even if it's not the plague or whatever it is.

~ I was actually thinking that whatever it is, it is really easy peasy to treat IF you have the right meds. Meds maybe that are fairly easy to get at first, but as people/groups/agencies beginning hording it, becomes harder to get. Whatever it is, that is what Jared will fall ill with. They're both their normal healthy selves when it all starts.

~ symptoms?

~ For whatever reason, they leave Vancouver while they can, fairly early in the disaster. Maybe they gather together whatever med it is (something easy to get now, but harder to get later...sulphur?) some provisions and decide to try to sneak into the US somehow, but they have to go down the border to a point where it won't be so heavily patrolled.

~ During their journey, Jared falls ill. The meds they have work for awhile, but they realize the doses need to be increased periodically and they don't have enough for more than another few months, which they don't think will be a problem. They'll be home by then. They're very naive about how bad it is. For some reason Jensen stays healthy. Not everyone gets it and no one knows quite why some do and some don't.

~ When they realize it's going to be way harder than they thought to cross the border since military is doubled at the crossing points, they wind up having to camp out and stay wherever they can (abandoned farmhouses, etc.) and never have a chance to replenish the meds. They eventually run out. I'd like them to stay free for about six months post-apoc. That way the black market has had a chance to corner the market on the sulphur or whatever.

What do you think so far? Did I miss any vital details?

And we know Kink needs so very little provocation to go off. And so then I wrote this:

Look at this: http://www.cnn.com/2006/TECH/science/12/29/canada.arctic.ap/index.html?eref=rss_world

We could say that the ice breaking off the shelf released all these allergens that haven't been around in thousands of years, so we have no real resistance to them, but obviously some people are allergic and some aren't. What they're "missing" could be as simple as antihistimines that used to be available over the counter, Benadryl, Claritin, etc. I have this image in my mind of Jen being really cautious about his health (and slightly a hypochondriac) so he's got all these drugs stored up. Simple stuff: lots of aspiririn, cold medications (including antihistimines), etc. So people are getting sick. Really sick. People are dying from anaphalactic shock and the drug makers can't produce drugs fast enough to keep up with the demand.

The US is freaking out and blaming Canada. Canada is blaming the US for causing the global warming crisis in the first place. Both countries close the borders and are eyeing each other suspiciously. I'm thinking they would have deported US citizens; we need a reason for Jared and Jensen to have missed it or something.

There was also a thing in the news (In RL) about Avian Flu making the leap to humans...so we can combine the two disasters and say that you don't want to look sick (and one of the reasons people are being quarantined) because people don't know if it's the allergies (which are not contagious) or some form of the Avian Flu, which IS. So anyone who LOOKS or ACTS sick is liable to either a) be rounded up and quarantined or, in extreme cases, killed out of hand by paranoid citizen-vigilantes.

Businesses are shutting down like CRAZY, either because they don't have the manpower to keep them staffed, or because they're afraid of their employees having and spreading contagion. This is impacting the economy, but it also means all these people out of work, NOT GETTING PAID, scared and surly, with WAY too much time on their hands.

So yeah, at first, Jared's doing okay, but then he starts feeling ill and Jen's freaking out. They'd probably hide out somewhere for a while to see if Jared's got The Flu or whether it's allergies. Jared's freaking out, thinking he's going to die and he doesn't want to get anyone else sick and Jensen should leave him and blah blah and Jensen's telling him, "Shut the fuck up, it's going to be allergies; and I'm not going anywhere you pussy." And it IS just the allergies, but they're getting worse. They keep having to dose Jared more and more with the antihistimines and they're running out and there are just NONE to be found. The goverment probably seized them all as soon as they could and what they didn't get, people bought up FAST.

So...maybe they get back into the US and they meet up with someone like Chad, maybe. And while they're visiting, Jared has a really bad attack. And they're either out of drugs, or it's not working. And Chad's like, I know someone who can help you...but it's not cheap. Jensen's like, WTF, man? There's no money. We don't have any money. And Chad says, Yeah...it's not money they're going to want, anyway. And that's how it starts. And maybe they find out that Chad's been kind of...procuring people for the brothel (which is how we could bring in other WB/CW people if we want)

And then [livejournal.com profile] brynwulf wrote back with this:

I love all this exactly as you said. And Chad would so be the one to procure, especially since he also has been hit by the allergens and the brothel keeps him healthy as long as he brings in new clients.

We all know the wealthy are the ones who will have what the government doesn't.

Of course, the boys, especially Jared, since he is sick, will have to go through some tests to make sure it is not Avian flu. But once they determine it's not, they make him the offer. Jensen can stay or leave...his choice.

eh?

AND OMG WE NEED TO WRITE THIS. *cries* I need to learn to keep my mouth SHUT about the bunnies being quiet, because (like all parents know) it's just a sign that they're PLOTTING SOMETHING.
